Description John Sefler 2011-04-04 22:38:31 UTC
VERSION...
# rpm -q subscription-manager-gnome
subscription-manager-gnome-0.95.5-1.git.33.139b536.el6.x86_64

RE-CREATES...
# man -P cat subscription-manager-gui | grep guid
subscription-manager-guid(8)Subscription Managr GUsubscription-manager-guid(8)
version 1.0 January 25, 2011 subscription-manager-guid(8)

Problem 1:
Managr GU ^^^^ IS MISSING AN "e" and an "I"

Problem 2:
subscription-manager-guid ^^^^ Why is there a "d" on the end of subscription-manager-gui

# man -P cat subscription-manager-gui | grep "/usr/sbin/subscription-manager"
              * /usr/sbin/subscription-manager

Problem 3:
this should be a path to "subscription-manager-gui" not "subscription-manager"

# man -P cat subscription-manager-gui | grep compliance
scribing to entitlements, and viewing the compliance of installed prod-

Problem 4:
the word "compliance" is now a no-no as decided by legal.
NOTE: THE SAME PROBLEM EXISTS IN # man -P cat subscription-manager | grep compliance

# man -P cat subscription-manager-gui | grep -B2 "Linux 6"
Red Hat Enterprise Linux. To file bugs related to this tool, go to
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/ and select Red Hat > Red Hat Enterprise
       Linux 6 > subscription-manager.

Problem 5:
The reference to filing bugs under Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 is NOT going to work when one is running subscription-manager-gui on RHEL5.*. Therefore if you want to share this man page between release (which I think you do) you should probably make this statement a little more generic.

Comment 2 RHEL Program Management 2011-04-04 22:43:26 UTC
Since RHEL 6.1 External Beta has begun, and this bug remains
unresolved, it has been rejected as it is not proposed as
exception or blocker.

Red Hat invites you to ask your support representative to
propose this request, if appropriate and relevant, in the
next release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

Fixed in 30b440ba3521e620744cd8868fb7c895b94d56b9. You should see this in build 0.95.7

Comment 9 John Sefler 2011-04-07 20:29:13 UTC
testing version...
# rpm -qa | grep subscription-manager
subscription-manager-gnome-0.95.6-1.git.4.55b6173.el6.x86_64
subscription-manager-firstboot-0.95.6-1.git.4.55b6173.el6.x86_64
subscription-manager-0.95.6-1.git.4.55b6173.el6.x86_64

Here's another twist on problem 1,2 in comment 0 ...

[root@jsefler-onprem-server ~]# man subscription-manager | head -1
subscription-manager(8) Subscription Management subscription-manager(8)

[root@jsefler-onprem-server ~]# man subscription-manager-gui | head -1
subscription-manager-gui(8)Subscription Manager GUIsubscription-manager-gui(8)

^^^ notice in the case of man subscription-manager-gui that the whitespace is completely consumed.

Suggested Fix: change the middle title to "Subscription Manager" for both subscription-manager and subscription-manager-gui. In this is common title for both tools is accurate and fixes the whitespace consumption.

Comment 10 John Sefler 2011-04-07 20:41:49 UTC
Aside from comment 9, the other problems identified in comment 0 have been resolved.

Moving back to ASSIGNED to fix comment 9

Comment 11 John Sefler 2011-04-07 21:15:23 UTC
Upon further review... I'm going to
1. move this bugzilla to VERIFIED for rhel6.1 since the more serious "compliance" wording is now fixed for rhel6.1
2. open comment 9 as a new bug in 5.7

This will result in the whitespace fixes for rhel 5.7 and rhel 6.2, but not rhel 6.1 which is fine since comment 9 is not a show stopping bug for rhel 6.1
