Description yuping zhang 2011-04-07 11:21:13 UTC
Description of problem:

As rhn.redhat.com has been updated, the doc of obtain virt-v2v relevant RPMs from rhn should update.

http://documentation-stage.bne.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/96/html/V2V_Guide/chap-Virtualization-v2v-migration.html#Preparing-to-convert-a-guest
and

2.1.1.1. Preparing to convert a virtual machine running Linux
3.2.1.1. Preparing to convert a virtual machine running Linux
To obtain the relevant RPMs for your environment, repeat these steps for each missing package:

   1. Login to Red Hat Network
   2. Select Channels
   3. Use the Filter by Product Channel function to select the channel for the version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux running on the virtual machine. In the case of the example shown in Example 2.1, “Missing Package error”, the channel is Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 5.3.
   4. Select the Packages tab
   5. Use the Filter by Package function to locate the missing package
   6. Select the package exactly matching the one shown in the error message. For the example shown in Example 2.1, “Missing Package error”, the first package is kernel-2.6.18-128.el5.x86_64
   7. Select Download Package at the bottom of the package details page
   8. Save the downloaded package to the appropriate directory in /var/lib/virt-v2v/software. For Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, the directory is /var/lib/virt-v2v/software/rhel/5

Can't obtain the RPMs step by step, can't find "Filter by Product Channel" and "Filter by Package" tabs, but can get RPMs by repeat these steps:
    1.Login to Red Hat Network
    2.Select "Packages" as Search type
    3.Input the package name
It will search the relevant RPMs.

3.2.1.2. Preparing to convert a virtual machine running Window
Obtain the Guest Tools ISO
As part of the conversion process for virtual machines running Windows, the Manager will install drivers using the Guest Tools ISO. See Section 4.2.2, “Configuration changes for Windows virtual machines” for details of the process. The Guest Tools ISO is obtained as follows:

1.From the Manager, Login to Red Hat Network
   2.Click on Download Software
3.Select the Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization (x86-64) channel
4.Select the Red Hat Enterprise Virt Manager for Desktops (v.2 x86) or Red Hat Enterprise Virt Manager for Servers (v.2 x86) channel, as appropriate for your subscription.
   5. Download Guest Tools ISO for 2.3 and save it locally

Can't find "Download software",this should be updated.

Comment 2 RHEL Program Management 2011-04-07 11:23:45 UTC
Since RHEL 6.1 External Beta has begun, and this bug remains
unresolved, it has been rejected as it is not proposed as
exception or blocker.

Red Hat invites you to ask your support representative to
propose this request, if appropriate and relevant, in the
next release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by this, as the Download Software tab still exists. But I've changed Step 2 to "Click on the Download Software tab", I hope that makes things clearer. I've also added a link to the Customer Portal in Step 1.

The other change I've made is the version number of Guest Tools (for 2.2), as I do not believe Guest Tools for 2.3 is available yet. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Hi Cheryn, you are right the "Download Software"tab still exists. It's great to add a link to the Customer Portal in Step 1,because I logged in http://rhn.redhat.com to test this.
Another question,I didn't found Guest Tools ISO for 2.3 in Red Hat Enterprise Virt Manager for Desktops (v.2 x86) or Red Hat Enterprise Virt Manager for Servers (v.2 x86) channel. As your comment, you will chang the version to 2.2,but the step 5 is still Guest Tools ISO for 2.3.

Comment 8 Cheryn Tan 2011-04-11 08:19:35 UTC
Thanks Yuping. If you have no other modifications to the procedures, I'll pop this to ON_QA.

Sections to review:

2.1.1.1. Preparing to convert a virtual machine running Linux
http://documentation-stage.bne.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/96/html/V2V_Guide/chap-Virtualization-v2v-migration.html#Preparing-to-convert-a-guest

3.2.1.1. Preparing to convert a virtual machine running Linux
http://documentation-stage.bne.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/96/html/V2V_Guide/Converting-a-vm.html#RHEV_Preparing-to-convert-a-guest

Both sections above contain updated instructions to access the relevant packages on the Customer Portal.

3.2.1.2. Preparing to convert a virtual machine running Windows
http://documentation-stage.bne.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/96/html/V2V_Guide/Converting-a-vm.html#RHEV_Preparing-to-convert-a-guest

Note that "Obtain the Guest Tools ISO" has been shifted to point number 3, under the header "Upload the Guest Tools ISO to the Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Manager".

Comment 9 yuping zhang 2011-04-11 10:05:24 UTC
Verified this bug in:

2.1.1.1. Preparing to convert a virtual machine running Linux
http://documentation-stage.bne.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/96/html/V2V_Guide/chap-Virtualization-v2v-migration.html#Preparing-to-convert-a-guest

3.2.1.1. Preparing to convert a virtual machine running Linux
http://documentation-stage.bne.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/96/html/V2V_Guide/Converting-a-vm.html#RHEV_Preparing-to-convert-a-guest

Both sections updated instructions to download relevant RPMs on the Customer Portal.

3.2.1.2. Preparing to convert a virtual machine running Windows
http://documentation-stage.bne.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/96/html/V2V_Guide/Converting-a-vm.html#RHEV_Preparing-to-convert-a-guest

As Guest Tools ISO for 2.3 is not available,so updated to "Download Guest Tools ISO for 2.2 and save it locally. ".

So change the status to VERIFIED.
