Description of problem: Since fedora 11, I have never been able to get the fedora install to complete without the whole system hanging. In general its the last step where one clicks the reboot button after the successful installation page is displayed.

From some vague recollection, i remembered that I had to "Xorg -configure" a new xorg.conf file. This had to be installed under "init 3", as the X11 system does not come up under init 5. Once this process is done, I have an X11 system. THis process works for 11,12,and fedora 13.

However Doing this same process for fedora 14 produces a blank screen with the spinning round busy icon on system startup. The icon appears to spin a bit, and then appears to be replaced( or displaced)  by a similar icon, that self-destructs ( i suppose it crashed ). This process or loop goes on all night. The screen is still blank (black) .

always. I am using an HP pavilion n5295 laptop. It does not support 3D.

Additional info:
I have installed all the updates associated with fedora 14 ( init 3) . Still the "busy icon" appears, and refuses to do anything else under init 5.

I have gone back to fedora 13. I have installed all the upgrades to fedora 13 ( as of april 8, 2011 ).

Must be a hardware-specific problem. A kernel / Xorg / driver bug. 'fedora-release' is just a package with a few files that identify the distribution. It is not the right component for this bugreport.

My google search indicates that the laptop has the S3 Savage graphics chip. 'xorg-x11-drv-savage' would have been a more appropriate component in Bugzilla. I don't know how well the driver is still maintained.
F14 is EOL.
