Must be a hardware-specific problem. A kernel / Xorg / driver bug. 'fedora-release' is just a package with a few files that identify the distribution. It is not the right component for this bugreport.

My google search indicates that the laptop has the S3 Savage graphics chip. 'xorg-x11-drv-savage' would have been a more appropriate component in Bugzilla. I don't know how well the driver is still maintained.
F14 is EOL.
