Please note that firstboot was not updated in RHEL 5.7. (In reply to comment #1) > Please note that firstboot was not updated in RHEL 5.7. Then it's something else that fails. Proposing back for 5.7. Please don't move to 5.8 or close this until the offending package is identified. Moving to xorg-x11-server-utils per comment #6 This request was evaluated by Red Hat Product Management for inclusion in the current release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Because the affected component is not scheduled to be updated in the current release, Red Hat is unfortunately unable to address this request at this time. Red Hat invites you to ask your support representative to propose this request, if appropriate and relevant, in the next release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. I'm unable to reproduce this with a fresh install of 5.8. What packages do you have installed? I suspect there's a resource file in one of them with a syntax error, that I simply happen not to have installed. Hi Adam, I'm also not able to reproduce with 5.8. Looking at the description this is most likely a default (desktop) install, which then starts firstboot.
