Description Hans de Goede 2011-04-13 15:50:39 UTC
Hi,

My audio setup is as follows:
-onboard soundcard -> analog stero -> monitor speakers
-usb audio doc -> coaxial spdif -> amplifier + good speakers

I use audacious as music player, and it is configured through pavucontrol to send its audio to the usb dac, all other sound goes to the monitor speakers (which usually are off).

Since I've upgraded to F-15 I regular have clearly audible dropouts of 0.5 secs or so in my music played through the usb dac.

At first I thought the problem was diskio related because it usually happens when I use tab completion, and it does not complete at once. But further investigation has resulted in me coming to the conclusion that it is related to alert sounds, this was not immediately obvious because usually the speakers where these play are off.

It does not happen always on alert sounds, but when it happens it always coincides with an alert sound playing. It *seems* that the music stops and then continues when the alert sound plays. I have the feeling the music stops playing while something is loading the alert sound sample to some cache.

Regards,

Hans

Hi,

I am facing a similar problem with my sound on this configuration:

01:09.0 Multimedia audio controller: C-Media Electronics Inc CM8738 (rev 10)

Analog Stereo -> Speakers

System has no load while playing music there are some breaks and jumps in the music. Tested it with vlc and rythmbox same problem.

If I change windows with alt + <tab> it happens very often that sound starts to "jump".

In my case if I use this usb headset problem doesn't appear:

Bus 002 Device 004: ID 0d8c:000c C-Media Electronics, Inc. Audio Adapter

I am on Fedora 15.

If more information are needed for debugging I will do my best.

Regards,

Dominik

Comment 2 Fedora End Of Life 2012-08-07 16:55:15 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 15. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version'
of '15' have been closed as WONTFIX.

(Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this
occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.)

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen
this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we were unable to fix it before Fedora 15 reached end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that
version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
