Description wieland 2011-04-22 14:01:42 UTC
Description of problem:
I got a new laptop today that has 4096k of DDR3 RAM. After I installed Rawhide I noticed that both 'free' and 'cat /proc/meminfo | grep MemTotal' reported only ~2.3 gig of total memory. After some Google-ing, I found installing kernel-PAE fixed it for me: I now have 3,7 gig of available RAM (the rest I suppose is reserved as graphical memory).

While the solution turned out to be trivial, I would have expected the installer to detect my memory and install kernel-PAE automatically.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:
Tried only once

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install Rawhide on an Acer Aspire 5472Z laptop computer
2. Run 'free', check /proc/meminfo, or see System Info
3.

Actual results:
Only ~2,3 gig of total memory reported

Expected results:
All of 4 gig of total memory reported

Additional info:
I'm sorry if this is a dupe or filed against the wrong component. I'm kinda new to Bugzilla.
