Description Edouard Bourguignon 2011-04-26 14:25:41 UTC
Description of problem:
ctrl+alt+down/up change to other virtual desktop in gnome shell, but only on the main screen/monitor on dual head configuration. And the desktop thumbnails on the right dock on the activity view are showing only main screen.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
gnome-shell-3.0.0.2-2.fc15.x86_64

How reproducible:
always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Attach a second display to your computer. By default it will be attached right of the first one.
2. move a window to that new screen
3. Change to an other virtual desktop

Actual results:
Main screen is switching correctly to an other virtual desktop, but not the second display.

Expected results:
Both display should switch to a new/next/prev virtual desktop.
Desktop thumbnails should show current extended desktop with all the windows (not only those on the main screen).

This is expected designed behavior.g

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=645581

Tracks the possibility of adding a separate mode of operation for a case where the monitors are basically the same (also mentions a GConf key you can tweak that changes the behavior but doesn't adapt the rest of the shell UI to match)

Comment 2 Edouard Bourguignon 2011-04-27 08:17:37 UTC
I always love when the answer to a bug is "it's not a bug it's a feature", even if it means something's failed somewhere.

So thank you, I have installed gconf-editor, to uncheck the box "workspaces_only_on_primary" in /desktop/gnome/shell/windows. Could help someone else with same problem.

But, there is still the bug that thumbnails don't show the workspace correctly, only the half part of the primary. Any checkbox to uncheck anywhere?
