Description Chris Plummer 2011-04-27 15:31:45 UTC
Description of problem:

I did a fresh install from DVD of Fedora 15 beta - during the package installation (before the first reboot), I got an error about a missing dependency on gnome-desktop3 of system-backgrounds-gnome. It appears that this package is now labeled desktop-backgrounds-gnome, but whenever I do a yum install/upgrade/update I'm getting a message saying I'm missing the system-backgrounds-gnome dependency.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

gnome-desktop3-3.0.1-1.fc15.x86_64

How reproducible:

Every time I run yum install/upgrade/update.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Fresh install F15 beta with Gnome 3 as the interface.
2. Watch the package installation progress.
3. A message pops up telling me that system-backgrounds-gnome can't be found as a dependency for gnome-desktop3.

Actual results:

Errors/warnings about missing system-backgrounds-gnome.

Expected results:

It should just install without any errors/warnings about missing dependencies.

I have the same issue. Also on pretty fresh install of Fedora 15 on 64bit ARCH.

Comment 2 joern 2011-05-02 05:41:37 UTC
I also see this with Fedora 15-Beta install using the i386 DVD with
Fedora 15-Beta and Fedora 15-Beta test-updates repositories added.
I have chosen the 'software development' package selection option.

The message comes up after the selection of the installation sources;
initially I selected only the DVD and test-updates as installation sources,
and I got a number of additional unsatisfied dependencies.

Comment 3 Philipp Dörfler 2011-05-03 12:23:20 UTC
Since today I'm facing the same issue. This is a F15-Beta install some days old with multiple so far successfull "yum update"s.

But today's just gives:
** Found 1 pre-existing rpmdb problem(s), 'yum check' output follows:
gnome-desktop3-3.0.1-1.fc15.x86_64 has missing requires of system-backgrounds-gnome

Comment 4 Philipp Dörfler 2011-05-03 12:26:43 UTC
"yum reinstall gnome-desktop3" fixes the problem for me.

Comment 5 Oscar Carballal 2011-05-14 14:17:11 UTC
Same for me. Fresh install of Fedora 15 Beta i686 replies about not having "system-backgrounds-gnome". The problem is that I can't update the system without that package (I have currently 275 packages pending for update)

I tried the Philipp solution with no results but an error message:

"The installed package gnome-desktop3-3.0.1-1.fc15.i686 (from fedora) is not available. Nothing to do."

Comment 6 niklas.laxstrom 2011-05-14 16:22:46 UTC
Installing desktop-backgrounds-gnome fixed it for me.

Comment 7 Oscar Carballal 2011-05-14 18:42:02 UTC
The solution provided by Niklas worked for me. After installing desktop-backgrounds-gnome yum does not give errors anymore.

Comment 8 Philipp Dörfler 2011-05-15 20:17:11 UTC
Sounds like magic to me ^.~

Comment 9 Fedora End Of Life 2012-08-07 18:10:58 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 15. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version'
of '15' have been closed as WONTFIX.

(Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this
occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.)

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen
this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we were unable to fix it before Fedora 15 reached end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that
version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
