The /usr/share/tomcat6/bin is not owned by the RPM, thus it is orphaned when the rpm is erased. This occurs because %{bindir} is not listed in the %files section as %dir. Also as an aside it might make sense to define %{bindir} so it's relative to ${homedir} rather than: %global bindir %{_datadir}/%{name}/bin %global homedir %{_datadir}/%{name} The following might be a tad cleaner and more robust: %global homedir %{_datadir}/%{name} %global bindir %{homedir}/bin that way if homedir ever changes bindir will move with it and allows for the possibility of just adding homedir to the %files.
