Description E.Patton 2011-05-03 09:41:18 UTC
Description of problem:

Documentation error: Footnote references incorrect package for the installation of audit2allow.

In Section 8.3.8. "Allowing Access: audit2allow" of,

http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/6/pdf/Security-Enhanced_Linux/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux-6-Security-Enhanced_Linux-en-US.pdf

(footnote 9 on page 67 of the PDF version)

the footnote states,

"From the audit2allow(1) manual page, as shipped with the policycoreutils package in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6."

audit2allow was not available unless the policycoreutils-sandbox package was installed.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 Security-Enhanced Linux User Guide Edition 2.0

How reproducible:

Documentation error

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Verify that policycoreutils is installed.
2. man audit2allow
3.

Actual results:

No manual entry for audit2allow

Expected results:

audit2allow page is displayed.

Additional info:

Install policycoreutils-sandbox.

man audit2allow then displays the man page for audit2allow (and, more importantly, allows the use of audit2allow).

This issue arose on a minimum install system with no GUI installed and we spent a good hour puzzling over why we had policycoreutils installed but could not access audit2allow.

I note that the direct impact is low but it has the potential to lead to selinux being disabled if a user cannot resolve the "missing" audit2allow.

Comment 2 RHEL Program Management 2011-05-03 10:07:55 UTC
This request was evaluated by Red Hat Product Management for
inclusion in the current release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
Because the affected component is not scheduled to be updated
in the current release, Red Hat is unfortunately unable to
address this request at this time. Red Hat invites you to
ask your support representative to propose this request, if
appropriate and relevant, in the next release of Red Hat
Enterprise Linux. If you would like it considered as an
exception in the current release, please ask your support
representative.

Comment 4 Paul Kennedy 2011-06-16 21:44:08 UTC
Changed footnote to this:
"From the audit2allow(1) manual page, which is available when the policycoreutils-sandbox package in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 is installed."
