Description d. johnson 2011-05-06 04:06:53 UTC
Description of problem:

Use the DVD, uncheck "GNOME" desktop, and check "XFCE" desktop. Install. When finished, it does not include NetworkManager-gnome, so no NM icon appears in your desktop.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

Fedora-15 final tc1 DVD

How reproducible:

Uncheck GNOME desktop on install. Happens every time.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start with DVD
2. Uncheck GNOME, check XFCE
3. Login

Actual results:

Missing NM icon.

Expected results:

NM should have an icon when you have logged in.

Additional info:

It works from livecd because it is explicitly included in the kickstart file. It should work from the DVD install as well.

As far as I can tell, it's never been included in the XFCE group.

Comment 2 Bill Nottingham 2011-05-06 16:51:02 UTC
(This is not to say it shouldn't be there; just noting the history.)

Comment 3 Christoph Wickert 2011-05-06 18:22:52 UTC
Given the dependencies of NetworkManager-gnome I'm not really happy with this change, nevertheless I made it as there is no better alternative (wicd lacks many features and is not compatible with NM).

I really hope "airconfig" (Xfce frontend to NM) gets finished one day.

I forgot to add: Especially the ones in Fedora > 15.

Comment 5 Bill Nottingham 2011-05-06 19:38:52 UTC
Looking at it, the only change in the deps from F-14 is the change of gtk2 -> gtk3, the libnotify ABI bump, and an addition of gtk-update-icon-cache. Admittedly, if the rest of your desktop is gtk2, it's an addition, but it's not a ridiculous number of packages.

Comment 6 Christoph Wickert 2011-05-06 21:04:26 UTC
Sorry, my bad. I thought the Network control panel was part of NetworkManager-gnome, but it's from control-center. The means that control-center lacks dependencies on NetworkManager and NetworkManager-gnome.
