ALSA info log for a high sample rate.

Description of problem:
At bootup sound sample rate seems to vary. Some times it will be slow, which corresponds to a sample rate of approximately 40000 hz. Other times sound will be incredibly fast, corresponding to an approximate sample rate of 48000 hz.

Sound seems to be slower when the computer has been off for some time. Faster sample rates usually occur after restarts.

A "normal" sample rate should be around 44100 hz, which is CD-quality.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
alsa-lib-1.0.21-3.el6 (i686)

How reproducible:
Start up computer.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot up computer

Actual results:
Sample rate higher or lower than

Expected results:
A consistent sample rate.

ALSA info log for a low sample rate

Comment 2 Ryan Stanyan 2011-05-06 16:41:46 UTC
If you were to perform a diff between the ALSA info logs the differences are found in PCM front DAC and PCM ADC.

Comment 4 RHEL Program Management 2011-05-06 17:07:44 UTC
This request was evaluated by Red Hat Product Management for
inclusion in the current release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
Because the affected component is not scheduled to be updated
in the current release, Red Hat is unfortunately unable to
address this request at this time. Red Hat invites you to
ask your support representative to propose this request, if
appropriate and relevant, in the next release of Red Hat
Enterprise Linux. If you would like it considered as an
exception in the current release, please ask your support
representative.

Comment 5 Ryan Stanyan 2011-05-06 18:44:11 UTC
This is a problem that does not effect any other version of Linux that this computer has run, including el5. Is it possible at all to backport bug fixes to ALSA?

Comment 6 Ryan Stanyan 2011-10-03 23:17:13 UTC
Installing a kernel module for ALSA from a third party repository seems to clear this up.

Comment 7 Jaroslav Kysela 2012-02-03 09:35:56 UTC
Could you test kernel-2.6.32-227.el6.hda631 ? This kernel is available on URL bellow:

Comment 8 Jaroslav Kysela 2012-07-10 18:45:29 UTC
No response from reporter. Assuming that the issue is fixed in RHEL 6.3.
