Description Paul Victor Novarese 2011-05-11 20:15:08 UTC
Description of problem:

ptype and whatis are very closely related. However, the distinction is not really clearly defined in the gdb help. Tromey asked me to file a bug about it since I was confused.

Probably just clarifying that ptype strips typedefs and pointing the user at whatis and vice versa should be enough.
