The delete key does not delete files anymore "by design". This is most annoying after 25+ years of using the delete key to delete files and using different operating systems during the day where delete key actually delete files. When switching to Fedora 15 I takes me several attempts to delete with the delete key until I realize that I have to use an additional key to delete file.

I would like to have an option to be abl;e to set the delete key as the shortcut to delete files.

NOTE: delete files should probably be replaced by move to trash in most places above but that does not change the need for an option to go back to the previous behavior.

Part of the problem is also the lack of feedback.  Users have no reason to expect ctrl-delete, since every other system behaves normally.

If we're going to be abnormal about something so conventional, we should let the user know.

Idea:
* in nautilus, if someone presses delete with files selected, give a popup (like the type in the attached screenshot) that says, "To delete files, hold ctrl and press delete").

I would rather say "If we're going to be abnormal about something so conventional, we should let the user *choose*". The popup thing is a false solution IMHO.
