Description Adam Williamson 2011-05-17 01:18:20 UTC
Running QA:Testcase_desktop_menus for LXDE on F15 RC3, I notice there's no screensavers listed in xscreensaver (start / preferences / screensaver) at all, which makes the preferences applet mostly useless. Don't know if this is a bug in xscreensaver or just LXDE should have more packages on the spin or what.

Comment 1 Christoph Wickert 2011-05-17 09:10:57 UTC
I cannot spot any changes in the package but there were no changes in the spin regarding xscreensaver either.

"No screensaver listed in xscreensaver" means when you launch
$ xscreensaver-demo, no screensaver hacks appear? (I don't understand
currently what you mean by "(start / preferences / screensaver)").
Or you mean that "xscreensaver" entry does not appear in LXDE menu or
so? Would you write in specific what you actually did and you actually
saw?

Comment 3 Christoph Wickert 2011-05-17 15:43:45 UTC
The list of screensavers in xscreensaver-demo is empty.

Comment 4 Mamoru TASAKA 2011-05-17 16:03:01 UTC
Then what rpms are installed? (Would you tell me what
"$ rpm -qa | grep xscreensaver" return?)

! Note that I don't know well about LXDE kickstart.
  I just saw
  http://git.fedorahosted.org/git/?p=spin-kickstarts.git;a=blob_plain;f=fedora-livecd-lxde.ks;hb=master
but I don't understand currently how xscreensaver related packages
  are pulled in LXDE spin.

Comment 5 Mamoru TASAKA 2011-05-17 16:22:37 UTC
Um, now I found that comps-f15.xml has
lxde-desktop: <packagereq type="default">xscreensaver-base</packagereq>
so actually this is expected because actually xscreensaver-base
has no hacks (screensavers). xscreensaver-base contains only the minimal files
which is needed to make xscreensaver "daemon" work.

Comment 6 Christoph Wickert 2011-05-17 16:23:59 UTC
So what has changed between F14 and F15 then?

F14 LXDE:
$ rpm -qa | grep xscreensaver
xscrensaver-base-5.12-5.fc14.i686
$

F15 LXDE:
$ rpm -qa | grep xscreensaver
xscrensaver-base-5.13-1.fc15.i686
$

Comment 7 Mamoru TASAKA 2011-05-17 16:43:59 UTC
Is it really sure that F-14 LXDE spin has some xscreensaver hacks installed by default?

Comment 8 Christoph Wickert 2011-05-17 20:17:43 UTC
You are right, sorry. I thought I looked it up, but in fact I compared to Xfce. It is definitely a problem with the spin, so I added xscreensaver-extras in
http://git.fedorahosted.org/git?p=spin-kickstarts.git;a=commit;h=5e3c998ac1542a295d9d54dae392c02fb89ec74c

As this change will not happen in F15, I'll close this NEXTRELEASE.
