Cause:
Some applications required more flexible control over acknowledgements.
Consequence:
It was not possible to acknowledge all messages up to a specific message (except by acknowledging each message individually or by acknowledging all fetched messages).
Change:
A method was added to the API to allow cumulative acknowledgement up to a given message.
Result:
The flexibility of acknowledgement was improved to cover this case.
