How much memory did you give your VM? VM's had 1024 MB memory and 1 core of a quad core cpu assigned in both F14 and F15. Are you able to tell whether the slowdown is in package download, installation, or scriptlet running? Conducting another side by side test as I type this. Test Details as follows:
1. Open Virt-Manager on F14_x86_64 host - Host is Core 2 Quad Q6600 at 2.40 Ghz with 3 GB ram.
2. Start a VM to receive F14_i386 which has 1024 mb ram.
3. Start a VM to receive F15_i386 which has 1024 mb ram.
4. For each VM do the following:
A. Press <CTRL><B> and get a gpxe> prompt
B. Enter DHCO net0 command
C. Enter Command initrd http://cobbler.server.ip.addr/cobbler/ks_mirror/Ver_Arch/isolinux/initrd.img
D. Enter Command kernel http://cobbler.server.ip.addr/cobbler/ks_mirror/Ver_Arch/isolinux/vmlinuz
E. Enter command boot
5. Walk through the Installer Screens to the final choose install type screen
NOTE : F15 unpack initramfs was a slowing point for F15
NOTE : examination of File Systems to a few seconds longer under F15 also
6. Choose graphical desktop and press next button.
NOTE : both VM's were started at this point seconds apart.
7. F14 had installed 1100 packages when F15 started to install it's first. Examination for dependancies and startup of install is definitely longer/slower in F15.
8. F15 has installed 40 packages when F14 reached the reboot button screen approximately 20 minutes from Step 6 to Step 8.
PAUSE IN NOTES HERE TO WAIT FOR F15 TO FINISH INSTALLING
Continuation of test for i386 9. F15 Finished Package Install and ready for reboot at 3 hours and 40 minutes after it was started. NOTE : Post Install and Bootloader phase was only 3 mintues long. 10. Both VM's were put into reboot for First Boot seconds apart. 11. First Boots ran side by side and were about same amount of time. 12. Startup was 60 seconds after gdm login for F14 and 120 seconds for F15 with Failback Mode Popup. I think I have figured out why I was getting the slow, long time period for F15 Installs when doing HTTP Install. It seems that when I get to the select type of Install Screen rather than listing the install repo Http://Addr.To.Install.Server/cobbler/ks_mirror/F15_i386/ it choses the F15 and F15-Updates Repos pointed at the redhat-fedora internet mirrors hence the long install time. Instal Type Selection Screen
Note the missing Install Repo Option.
Please attach /tmp/anaconda.log from your slow install to this bug. Thanks. Issue was resolved in updates |
