Description Raymond Steyer 2011-05-23 03:49:32 UTC
Description of problem: Immediately after install and reboot, cannot access Internet.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Fedora 15 beta x86-64 DVD

How reproducible:
Twice. Second try had working internet cable connected when installing. Cable was verified to work using Fedora 15 beta i686 Live CD.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Verify cable connected.
2. Install Fedora 15 beta x86-64 DVD.
3. Reboot.
4. Open Konqueror. Default fedora link fails. Also www.google.com fails.

Actual results:
Cannot view webpages.

Expected results:
Should be able to see webpages.

Additional info:
New computer. AMD Phenon II Black 1100T; Asus M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 MB. Using onboard ethernet port. Initial install of Fedora 15 beta x86-64 (with cable not connected) could not access internet. Tried Fedora 15 beta i686 Live and was able to access default Fedora page. Compared settings to existing install of Fedfora 14 on a different machine and it looked OK. Reinstalled Fedora 15 beta x86-64 (with cable CONNECTED). Still no internet access.

Sorry about my choice of Fedora component; could not seem to find any better fit.

Marked urgent because of impending release.

Comment 2 Jirka Klimes 2011-05-23 11:50:55 UTC
Maybe, your connection is not configured to activate automatically. How did you configured network in anaconda installer?

Do you see any connections in applet and are you able to manually activate it?

Please provide output of these commands:
$ ls /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-*

$ cat /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
or
$ cat /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-em1

Could you grab /var/log/messages file in order we can see NetworkManager logs?

/var/log/messages file as requested

Here is the info Jirka Klimes <jklimes> requested:
Maybe, your connection is not configured to activate automatically. How did you
configured network in anaconda installer?
A: I did nothing as far as network changes in anaconda. I DID change from Gnome to KDE and install some developer tools, office, etc.

Do you see any connections in applet and are you able to manually activate it?
A: Not sure how to do that. Tried:
service network restart
which did not work.

Please provide output of these commands:
$ ls /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-*
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-lo  /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-pci32p1

$ cat /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
cat: /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0: No such file or directory

$ cat /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-em1
cat: /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-em1: No such file or directory

Could you grab /var/log/messages file in order we can see NetworkManager logs?
Attached it. It looks like network manager info is around line 702 and it was having trouble.

Comment 4 Raymond Steyer 2011-05-24 02:46:30 UTC
Just tried the Fedora 15 Beta x86-64 Live KDE DVD. Appeared to be above to access the internet (the Fedora web page came up).

Comment 5 Jirka Klimes 2011-05-25 12:13:59 UTC
OK, your device is called pci32p1, so
$ cat /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-pci32p1

You should have ON_BOOT=yes there.

Alternatively, you can run nm-connection-editor and check "Connect automatically" box.

Comment 6 Raymond Steyer 2011-05-31 02:28:35 UTC
Adding ON_BOOT=yes DID fix it.

It did not occur on a reinstall. However, one difference which appeared VERY significant to me was that I selected a couple of additional repositories during the install. When it was adding the first repository it showed pci32p1 being added for internet connection. In the previous install where I had to edit the ifcfg-pci32p1 script, I did NOT select any additional repository.

Comment 7 Fedora End Of Life 2012-08-07 15:59:23 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 15. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version'
of '15' have been closed as WONTFIX.

(Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this
occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.)

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen
this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we were unable to fix it before Fedora 15 reached end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that
version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
