Description Rainer Koenig 2011-05-24 08:11:00 UTC
Description of problem:
The v7 BLURAY test always fails on version 1.3-43-el6 when using an already used BD-RE disc. When using a new virgin BD-RE the test passes.

Using the exact same hardware and BD-RE disc, just replacing the new version of v7 with the version 1.2-25-el6 and the test passes without problems.

Problem seems to be the formatting of a BD-RE when it has content.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
v7-1.3-43-el6

How reproducible:
always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Setup a system for hwcert with v7 1.3-43-el6
2. Run BLURAY test with a BD-RE disc that was used before.
3. Test fails

Actual results:
Test fails

Expected results:
Test passes

Additional info:

Output log shows this when test fails:

<output>
Test Parameters: OUTPUTFILE=/var/log/v7/runs/1/bluray/output.log DEVICE=sr0 TESTSERVER=unknown RUNMODE=normal DEBUG=off UDI=/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/storage_model_BD_RE__BH20N

  Your Blu-ray drive /dev/sr0 supports BD-RE
  You need to prepare a good BD-RE disc to run this test.

  Press ENTER when you are ready ! Or press Ctrl-C to quit !
  Please insert a good BD-RE disc into /dev/sr0 and then press ENTER to continue !

   Start testing BD-RE ...

Media Matched: Media in drive now is BD-RE

  +++ Start testing ...

"dvd+rw-format -format=full /dev/sr0 2>/dev/null" returned 1
</output>

I also reproduced this bug on v7-1.4-20 with a BD-RE disk which has already used several times.

running dvd+rw-format alone seems normal
# dvd+rw-format -format=full /dev/sr1

* 24.2GB BD media detected.
* formatting 7.7%

Does this format complete? The error in the output indicates it exited with an error.

Comment 3 Guangze Bai 2011-09-27 02:07:02 UTC
That format command ran manually complete 7.7% and I terminated it by ctrl-c because the format process cost too much time. But it seems that bluray format exited with error at the starting of format phase.

Comment 4 Guangze Bai 2011-10-24 08:37:47 UTC
I made some investigation for bluray test and seemingly found a reason of this bug.

On v7-1.3-37, bluray test only supports BD-RE disk and once the disk inserted, it will print info "Media Matched" and start formating.

But on v7-1.4-34, after it detect BD-RE disk and print info "Media Matched", tray will be ejected (Like comment 1). At this time, close the tray manually and *immediately* press ENTER, the bug can be produced, that is, "dvd+rw-format -format=full /dev/sr1 2>/dev/null" returned 1. So for this I have tested that closing tray and waiting seconds then pressing ENTER, formating can work.
