Ouch, a kernel panic. Does the LiveCD work? -- Fedora Bugzappers volunteer triage team https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers As I have mentioned earlier ... even live CD does not work... same either hands after grub options or shows mix error...... But with fedora beta I did not have any issues .... that was a bit weirs though... :)... I hope this is fixed asap.. as I use fedora as my primary OS.... (In reply to comment #3) > Created attachment 500728 [details] > original screenshot > Unfortunately the real oops report has scrolled off the screen already - this is a second one that happened as a result of the first one. You may be able to work around the problem by adding "intel_iommu=off" to the kernel boot options or turning off virtualization in the computer's setup screens. I got same problem on Lenovo Thinkpad X201s (Core i7), passing 'intel_iommu=off' to kernel or disabling VT-d in BIOS solves the problem. In BIOS i got 2 options for virtualization: 1. Intel Virtualization technology 2. Intel VT-d feature enabling second option makes the problem to appear, no problem occurs when 1. is enabled and 2. is disabled I have a similar issue on lenovo w500. Can confirm that 'intel_iommu=off' solved the problem. Will have a look at what my VT-d options looks like. I also have another lenovo laptop (lenovo n200) that has f15 installed and did not show this bug. (In reply to comment #5) > I have a similar issue on lenovo w500. Sorry for the noise. Same problem on Compaq dv7-1260US AMD Turion X2 R72. Preupgrade ran OK but on reboot only get blinking underscore. My AMD Turion processor also has embedded virtual technology. I disabled virtualization in the bios and still experienced the problem of fedora not booting. When running Preupgrade I check the dialog box to download new images/packages from untested distros in an attempt to get the newest versions. Still no go. (In reply to comment #7) > Same problem on Compaq dv7-1260US AMD Turion X2 R72. Preupgrade ran OK but on > reboot only get blinking underscore. That is probably bug 700800 since your machine is AMD. In that case you may be able to make it continue by repeatedly pressing the Shift key. If that works you can then install the latest update kernel and things should be fine. I had installation problems on Lenovo Thinkpad T420s. The kernel had crashed when booting from Fedora 15 installation media (dvd, or pxe boot image). I tried the hint from comment #4. That has resolved the problem (or, to be more precise, it is a workaround). I switched off VT-d in the BIOS, then the installation kernel had not crashed again. After installation and update to the current kernel (kernel-2.6.38.8-32.fc15.x86_64) I switched on VT-d in the BIOS again, and the notebook still boots without kernel crash. I think the best solution would be a respin installation media (dvd image) with a newer kernel and a patch like that of bug #706542. Another hint about Fedora 15 installation on Lenovo Thinkpad T420s (although not directly related to this bug): Booting and installing Fedora 15 on Lenovo Thinkpad T420s was only successful when graphics in BIOS was set to be not switchable and to use integrated graphics (intel graphic chip). Setting graphics in BIOS to switchable or discrete graphics will get the kernel crashing while booting. This is still true with the current kernel. This problem may be described in bugs #711217 or #708462. I booted and tried the shift key as stated in comment #9 with no success. FE-15 will not boot into OS for my AMD laptop. Ping. Is anything going to be done to fix this bug? If not, is there a way to upgrade, not completely install, Fe15? I have proceeded to upgrade FF to v5 on Fe14 and performance is very poor and completely unacceptable. I copied vmlinuz and initrd.img release FE-15 date 5/13 to /boot and modified grub.conf accordingly. Image still does not boot on HP-Compaq dv7. Is there a more recent release of vmlinuz that I can try? I was able to find a version of initrd.img compiled on 5/19 that did boot successfully on my dv7 laptop. I was able to install F15.
