Description Need Real Name 2011-05-25 17:56:17 UTC
Description of problem:
F14 to F15 upgrade using instructions on wiki:
 http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Upgrading_Fedora_using_yum#Fedora_14_-.3E_Fedora_15
DID NOT USE PREUPGRADE (why isn't it mentioned on that page?)
Rebooted, and kernel freezes. Numlock on usb keyboard becomes unresponsive.

Here's the interesting part: if I boot into rescue mode, I can type, but after I type a few characters the delay between the key being pressed and the character appearing on screen becomes massively longer or the wrong characters appear (tried with two different keyboards).

Booted with pcie_aspm=off

There isn't much information to go on here. Are you still having issues with the latest 2.6.40.6 kernel update in F15? If so, you might be able to install kernel-debug-2.6.40.6.fc15 and see if there is more information spit out with the debug options enabled.

Hello,

That box seems to be running F15 now. If I remember correctly it took a Fedora 15 cd and usb cdrom to make it worked.

The first problem was the wiki yum instructions don't tell you to use preupgrade.
The second problem was that the kernel didn't boot after the yum upgrade.

I will try an upgrade to F16 when it hits beta. Is the cpu supported?

Thanks.

Please ignore comment 3, it's completely wrong.

If the cpu on the box is supported in F16 I will try again with that.

Comment 5 Josh Boyer 2011-10-11 22:07:52 UTC
As far as I know the CPU should be supported. That really shouldn't be an issue.

I've just tried an upgrade to F16 and I get a consistent hang right after mounting the root filesystem. There are no useful errors shown and I cannot switch consoles once this happens.

Tried again.

1. Updated the bios
2. Booted with preupgrade appending text
3. Switched between the consoles as things progressed

Anaconda gets to the stage where it examines the storage then things go horribly wrong. I can no longer switch consoles to find an error.

4. I waited 5 minutes and still nothing.

Doesn't matter if I use preupgrade, F16 beta on a usb stick.

gah. Will give up soon.

This hardware requires pcie_aspm=off to be set. Is it possible that this flag no longer works?

Comment 9 Need Real Name 2011-12-20 17:05:58 UTC
This bug was caused by flaky hardware.
