The resize2fs command always take a device node to operate on and not a mount point as indicated at:
http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/6/html/Storage_Administration_Guide/ext4grow.html

Also, the size parameter is optional (and often redundant) when expanding.  It will automatically expand to fill all available space of the container (most often a logical volume or partition).

Note: The above also applies to ext3, so likely the RHEL 5 version of this doc is wrong also.
