Description bodhi.zazen 2011-06-04 06:13:53 UTC
Description of problem:

Sorry, gnome was not in the list of 'components' so I chose this one.

I am losing the icons in gnome.

I am using the nvidia driver as I am having a problem with the nouveau drive, for which I filed a separate bug.

At any rate, from time to time, I loose all the icons in the gnome menu, they all go blank. This makes the menu difficult, to say the least, to use, although I can still see some text.

Have not gotten any suggestions on either the forums or IRC.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

gnome 3 on Fedora 15

How reproducible:

Happens daily.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Use gnome, happens at random time intervals, typically within 15 minutes of logging in.
2.
3.

Actual results:

I loose the icons.

I can get them back if I log out and back in, but not if I restart gnome.

Expected results:

Would be nice to see the icons =)

Additional info: See link to my post on the forums as well as the link to my screenshot.

Sorry to post this under the applet, but it was as good as the bug report seems to get as I have to choose a component to file and gnome is not on the list.

Moving bug to gnome-shell. However it looks like it might be a problem with the nvidia proprietary driver, so there might not be a way to fix it.

Comment 2 bodhi.zazen 2011-06-04 17:18:04 UTC
Thank you for moving the report, I somehow missed gnome-shell on the list (I typed in "gnome" and did not see gnome-shell).

Aye, I understand it may be a problem with the nvidia driver, and I understand the implications of using the driver. I do not expect support for the nvidia driver here.

But, in the event it is not a nvidia driver issue, I figured I would report it.

I am still hoping the nouveau driver will work for me (again I filed a separate bug report on that).

Comment 3 bodhi.zazen 2011-06-05 03:06:48 UTC
It seems the problem is actually a combination of things, including the nvidia driver, but mostly selinux.

I needed several policies as I use xguest and I confine my users. I have attached several selinux policies that seems to have solved the problem.

I think the confusion came from the fact that I was not always getting a selinux alert ;)

Comment 8 Fedora End Of Life 2012-08-07 17:44:03 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 15. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version'
of '15' have been closed as WONTFIX.

(Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this
occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.)

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen
this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we were unable to fix it before Fedora 15 reached end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that
version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
