Description NickG 2011-06-05 13:50:33 UTC
Description of problem:
The XDG_DESKTOP_DIR is set to $HOME/Desktop which doesn't work correctly on Gnome 3. Removing the desktop manually doesn't work, and it still shows in GTK's bookmarks anyway

How reproducible:
Everytime from fresh install

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open home directory
2. Observe Desktop directory

Actual results:
Desktop directory is shown, but doesn't map to the actual desktop

Expected results:
No Desktop directory or show desktop directory contents on desktop

Additional info:

Either remove the ~/Desktop directory (preferred) or reenable the ~/Desktop -> Desktop mapping in Gnome

The simplest fix I've found is to edit ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs and replace the line:
XDG_DESKTOP_DIR="$HOME/Desktop"
with
XDG_DESKTOP_DIR="$HOME/"

Yes, this change is planned for Fedora 16, and iirc it is already done in rawhide.
Closing.
