When rpm-sign is not installed on the server, the error message on the server only reports something like:

ERROR: Error signing ($rpm_tuple): End Of File (EOF) in read_nonblocking(). Exception style platform.
2011-06-07 13:49:15,898 INFO: Request error: Unknown error
 
without indicating what is wrong.  Actual stdout/stderr from (rpm --addsign) should be included in the log if it is more useful.

Fixed in upstream commit f47b2a3365c5158492635e6aa82933fd44a7819d .

Commit 405141f78416eab083e0958a61e34a8cb80156cd , actually.  The output is still not very helpful, but that's bug #697435.

Fix released in (rawhide and http://people.redhat.com/mitr/rpmsigner/rhel6/) sigul-0.100.  Thanks for your report.
