Description Steve 2011-06-08 10:19:11 UTC
Description of problem:
emacs stops responding to mouse and keyboard input when minimised and later restored.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Name : emacs
Epoch : 1
Version : 23.2
Release : 19.fc15 Fedora 15 with all updates applied
Architecture: x86_64

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. login
2. open a gnome terminal window
3. type 'emacs &' at the command line prompt
4. minimise the emacs window using Ctrl + Z
5. restore the emacs window using Alt + TAB

Actual results:
The emacs cursor is no longer blinking, and emacs is no longer responding to keyboard or mouse input.

Expected results:
emacs responds to keyboard and mouse input.

Additional info:
if you add step 6 to the above sequence:
6. maximise the emacs window

then the cursor does reappear and emacs continues working normally.
The problem did not occur in Fedora 14, so I think the problem may be related to the upgrade to GNOME 3.

Comment 1 Akira TAGOH 2011-07-06 02:19:45 UTC
I see the same issue on GNOME3 but no problem on XFCE. so the issue may be in gnome-shell or mutter? dunno. anyway FYI.

Comment 2 Paul Eggert 2011-10-27 22:39:14 UTC
This problem came up recently on the Emacs developers' mailing list. It also occurs with the latest-and-greatest Emacs on the Emacs development trunk. I have filed an Emacs bug report <http://debbugs.gnu.org/9893> in case it is a problem with Emacs and not with the Gnome shell.

Any chance of this being fixed for Fedora 15?

Comment 11 Karel Klíč 2011-11-28 16:42:39 UTC
Sure. First, we need to get Emacs 23.3 to Fedora 15, and make sure there are no regressions in such a big update:

https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2011-16246/emacs-23.3-7.fc15

When this update land in F15, I can prepare another one adding this bug.
