Description Andre Robatino 2011-06-09 19:10:44 UTC
Description of problem:
This is actually two problems, which may or may not be related. Gdm only shows "Other", not my ordinary user account. If I hit Enter, X crashes and restarts. The same thing happens when I hit Enter the second time. The 3rd time, it prompts me for my username and then password and I successfully log in. Using the mouse instead of the keyboard only postpones the X crash, I need to crash it twice before getting a stable login. If I use the mouse exclusively to log in at the beginning, X will crash as soon as I hit Enter anywhere.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
gdm-3.0.0-2.fc16.x86_64

How reproducible:
always

Comment 10 Andre Robatino 2011-06-27 17:17:44 UTC
This problem seems fixed now - hitting Enter doesn't cause X to crash anymore. Unfortunately, there's now a different issue where the GDM login box appears briefly, twice, then disappears each time and I can't log in that way, but that's a different issue. Closing.

Comment 11 Andre Robatino 2011-06-27 17:44:21 UTC
I take it back. After today's rawhide updates, it's doing it again.

Comment 12 Andre Robatino 2011-06-27 18:02:43 UTC
To clarify, now I have both issues, I have to crash X twice by hitting Enter, then after that I can't log in at all so have to go to a VT anyway.

Comment 13 Andre Robatino 2011-07-09 13:00:13 UTC
Bug still exists. If I hit Enter once promptly after X starts, I don't have to do it again; otherwise I have to do it twice as described above.

Comment 14 Andre Robatino 2011-07-11 14:17:37 UTC
Bug appears fixed when booting into the latest kernel (3.0-0.rc6.git6.1.fc16.x86_64) from the 20110711 updates. If I boot into the older kernel, the bug still exists. I'll close this if the bug stays fixed with the next few kernels.

The only minor issue remaining is that although gdm shows 2 entries ("Andre Robatino" and "Other..."), "Other..." is highlighted by default.

Comment 15 Andre Robatino 2011-07-16 13:51:39 UTC
Still working with the latest kernels (3.0-0.rc7.git0.1.fc16.x86_64 and 3.0-0.rc7.git3.1.fc16.x86_64). Closing.
