Description of problem:

Documentation is not consistent.

Issue : usage of "slapd.conf" is really not clear ?

This issue should be targeted upstream. A lot of manual pages were not updated after migrating from slapd.conf to slapd.d. Or are kept from compatibility reasons. The decision of updating/removing them is up to upstream developers.
