Description Shaun Andrew 2011-06-16 18:38:56 UTC
Description of problem: Configured /etc/yum.conf with "keepcache=1". Ran "yum -y upgrade". The yum cache directory was bare after download, as if it had been "cleaned". yum is IGNORING "keepcache=1"

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
rpm on Fedora 15 ISO DVD is yum-3.2.29-4.fc15.noarch.rpm

How reproducible:
always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.install Fedora 15 (include yum in the installation)
2.edit /etc/yum.conf with "keepcache=1"
3.run "yum -y upgrade"

Actual results:
The yum cache directory is BARE.

Expected results:
Every item downloaded per "yum -y upgrade" is RETAINED in the yum cache directory.

Additional info:
yum was upgraded per the "yum -y upgrade"

what dir were you looking in?

Comment 2 Shaun Andrew 2011-06-16 22:04:08 UTC

> what dir were you looking in?

my /etc/yum.conf file follows:

[main]
cachedir=/images/cache/yum/$basearch/$releasever
keepcache=1
debuglevel=2
logfile=/var/log/yum.log
exactarch=1
obsoletes=1
gpgcheck=1
plugins=1
installonly_limit=3
color=never

$basearch=x86_64
$releasever=15

My "images" volume is used with Fedora 14 as well, so ../x86_64/14 already existed.

(I am back to using Fedora 14 because of so many problems with Fedora 15.)

yum created new directory structures from $releasever=15 on down to the "packages" subdirectories for each repository, yet the "packages" subdirectories are BARE. About 300+ rpm files were downloaded.

Comment 3 James Antill 2011-06-17 14:00:57 UTC
No code has changed anywhere near that functionality since F14, the code still looks like it works and I've just run:

% l /var/cache/yum/x86_64/15/updates-testing/packages
total 0
% sudo yum upT valgrind
[...]
Updated:
  valgrind.x86_64 1:3.6.1-4.fc15

Complete!
% l /var/cache/yum/x86_64/15/updates-testing/packages
total 31M
31M valgrind-3.6.1-4.fc15.x86_64.rpm

...so either something is a bit weird with your yum ... or it stored the packages somewhere, just not where you thought they'd be.

This package has changed ownership in the Fedora Package Database. Reassigning to the new owner of this component.

Comment 5 Fedora End Of Life 2012-08-07 17:58:04 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 15. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version'
of '15' have been closed as WONTFIX.

(Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this
occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.)

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen
this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we were unable to fix it before Fedora 15 reached end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that
version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
