Description Marko Myllynen 2011-06-21 19:45:44 UTC
Description of problem:
When running ipa-client-install on Fedora 15 where nscd is not installed one sees this warning:

Failed to configure automatic startup of the NSCD daemon

Since running nscd isn't a hard requirement for all clients and since the message really doesn't tell that much (Was this a harmless or a fatal failure? Will the client work ok in spite of the failure? Is some functionality now missing? etc) it might be better to print the warning only if nscd is installed but its automatic startup configuration fails.

It could be also mentioned that no nscd.conf was written.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
freeipa-client-2.0.1-2.fc15

https://fedorahosted.org/freeipa/ticket/1373

In the case of sssd we're actually trying to stop nscd and make chkconfig it off.

We don't actually configure nscd at all.
