Description Stephen Gordon 2011-06-23 00:00:17 UTC
Description of problem:

The old 5.x method of uninstalling the Hypervisor was to boot with 'linux firstboot' and then access the uninstall option from the support menu.

This is now done entirely via the kernel parameters by adding 'uninstall storage_init=/dev/sda', for example.

Additional info:

<steveg> might be a bit late but another Q, do we have an uninstall option in the new version of the hypervisor
<steveg> or can i safely remove that chapter from the guide for 6.x?
<mburns> steveg: uninstall is done using storage_init=<dev> and uninstall command line params
<mburns> there isn't a gui option afaik
<steveg> ok, previous version you had to `linux firstboot` and then `Select <guilabel>Support Menu</guilabel> from the <guilabel>Hypervisor Configuration Menu</guilabel>. From the <guilabel>Support Menu</guilabel> select <guilabel>Uninstall an existing Hyperv    isor</guilabel>.'
<mburns> steveg: now:  uninstall storage_init=/dev/sda
<mburns> where /dev/sda is the installation device
<steveg> ok
<steveg> i take in the uninstall param is new? doesnt look like we covered it at all
<mburns> yeah, new in 6.1 for ibm, and 6.2 for the world

 * Uninstallation appendix
   - Updated uninstallation instructions to reflect that this option is no longer available via the GUI. Process is now initiated via kernel parameters.
