ia64 HVM DomU (20110629.0) boot up none

screenshot

Description of problem:
When I try to create HVM domU on latest RC tree it fails to start. More precisely it loads and stops shortly after that before loading anaconda installer. See screenshot for details.

On the same host I can provision PV domU's with no problem.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
kernel-xen-2.6.18-272.el5
xen-3.0.3-132.el5

How reproducible:
always on this host

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install planck.rhts.eng.rdu.redhat.com with latest RHEL 5.7 RC tree. Install kernel-xen, xen, virt-manager and reboot.
2. Using virt-manager create new guest selecting full virt. Select to boot from boot.iso from the same compose.
3. When ia64 efi shell loads type: fs0: <enter> then elilo <enter> then linux.
This will start the linux installer.

Actual results:
Installation stops at a point where it doesn't continue any more. See screenshot.

Expected results:
Anaconda loads and installation is possible.

Additional info:
I've used the last few snapshots of RHEL5.7 as dom0 and didn't have any issues (although I didn't use the same host).

Can I get access to this machine?

Comment 2 Andrew Jones 2011-06-30 16:40:49 UTC
I can't reproduce this on

hp-rx8640-02.rhts.eng.bos.redhat.com

I was able to install and boot an HVM guest without any problems. Did you
remember to install the firmware?

ia64 HVM DomU (20110629.0) boot up

Can't reproduce with our HP bl860c either, tried with 20110622.0, 20110629.0 and 20110630.0 trees to boot with boot.iso, all boot up fine.

$ xm info
host : hp-slot4-eth0.qe.lab.eng.nay.redhat.com
release : 2.6.18-271.el5xen

Guest boot log is attached. The anaconda installer start up successfully.

As mentioned in comment 3, this can be hw related think. Comment 1 mentioned previous versions was not tested on problematic machine. I requested machine, as it was returned) to verify.
