the .src.rpm built for fedora 15 (ojuba 5) http://www.ojuba.org/downloads/updates/testing/5/SRPMS/xkeyboard-config-2.3-2.1.oj5.src.rpm Admittedly my knowledge of Arabic is non-existent but this seems to break third-level keys such as the Z key (Arabic_hamzaonyeh). Alt + Z on ara should produce guillemotright but with this patch applied the third level is inaccessible. 7 other keys seem to be affected by this too. Can you comment on this a bit more please? ping? I use ALT+SHIFT every minute to switch layout we need both ALT keys to act similarly I'm a native Arabic speaker, and I never used ALT+Z and I'm not aware of any letter produce with ALT combinations (most of hamzat and diacritics and special marks are produced with shift combinations) if my fix is totally broken we need to come up with a different fix this bug is introduced by this patch https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27472 I have the following things to say: 1. I would like to thank both you, as both of you are non-arabs trying help up 2. I would like to confirm that all the affected letters are non-arabic-language letters (some English letters written in Arabic script) 3. they are not part of layout people used to (we should never say "qwerty is broken, we should change it") 4. when I would like to use them I use gucharmap 5. I've re-opened the upstream bug, please flow with me xkeyboard-config-2.6-7.fc18 has been submitted as an update for Fedora 18. https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/xkeyboard-config-2.6-7.fc18 Package xkeyboard-config-2.6-7.fc18: * should fix your issue, * was pushed to the Fedora 18 testing repository, * should be available at your local mirror within two days.
