Then avoid "weird characters as file names" and use UTF-8 or whatever your system is configured to.
Soundconverter is written in Python. This crash however is in C code in glib2 gmarkup.c/Python ceval.c, so you managed to crash the software at a much lower level.
yes, manually renaming the files helped. but it shouldn't crash anyway. do you want me to give you that files that caused this? Created attachment 510978 [details]
test case in Python
Example files are not needed, because the backtrace displays an URI that can be used to reproduce this, e.g. file:///tmp/test%FD.wav
GNOME's file managers display the file name as "test?.wav (invalid encoding)".
Attached test case written in Python also segfaults in low-level C code. glib2's markup_escape_text() expects UTF-8 input.
Haven't had a closer look yet, though.
