The latest release of Fedora is a great job.

I believe there is room for some small improvements. At 10,000 feet, I'm running Fedora on a laptop and desktop. The F15 installs a GNOME3, which appears to be a netbook/tablet configured desktop. I'm presuming netbook/tablet desktop because of the simplicity, workflow, missing features, and size of the buttons.

Missing feature for my laptop and desktop installation include:
* no minimize/restore buttons for windows
* no context menu on a right click
* no easy way to add shortcuts to left side launcher
* no easy way to re-include a tak bar

From [1], it appears there is a utility named `gnome-tweak-tool` that can help customize the GNOME3 desktop (specifically the missing minimize buttons). So I went to Activities -> Applications and could not find Tweak Tool (or a preference tool). I also looked in Applications -> System Settings to find the utility. The utility does not appears to be part of Background, Screen, or Displays. I finally searched for 'Tweak' with no hits.

For the missing context menus, I looked at Mouse and Touchpad. Unfortunately, there is no setting for right mouse clicks. I really miss right clicking a 'Open terminal'.

Finally, for the left side bar launcher, I don't really know what to say. When I hover the mouse where the bar resides, the bar does not 'pop-up' or 'pop-out'. So I'm not sure how to [intuitively] activate it. Clicking Activities shows the bar, but a right click does not offer 'Add New Shortcut' or 'Add New Launcher'.

For the small improvements, I believe the following would help:

(1) if F15 first-boot detects a laptop or desktop, the user should be offered the choice of a netbook/tablet configured desktop, or a classic desktop. Don't assume everyone wants a netbook/tablet configured desktop, and don't make folks re-learn a desktop because its the trendy way to do things.

(2) for the missing gnome-tweak-tool, please include it. Even better, offer more configuration options in a Preferrences plugin under System Settings (perhaps 'Preferences' or 'User Settings').

(3) with a well populated Tweak Tool or 'User Preferences', items such as minimize buttons and missing task bars will take care of themselves.

(4) please include a context menu when right clicking.

Just found Tweak Tool. I needed to open Add/Remove Software and search for Twaek. There's really bo reason this tool should not be included in a base distribution.

Forgot to mention a few other missing features:

(1) I cannot find reboot. I have to open a Terminal, su, and then issue `reboot`. This could really be improved.

(2) GNOME3's defqult configuration appears to simply turn off the screen. My laptop and desktop is jacked-in, so I would like to change to a screen saver. Unfortunately, searching for 'Screen Saver' resulted in 0 hits. I really miss Cosmos and Matrix.

(3) Gnome Tweak Tool does not offer a setting similar to 'Classic Desktop'

(4) Even when File Manager is managing the desktop, there is no Task Bar. I'm not convinced hiding my active tasks under [the very small] Activities button is a good idea. I'd really like to see the tasks all the time, or be able to drag my mouse to the bottom of the screen (similar to Apple's launcher) to get a list of running tasks. The small Activiteis button feels like some sort of punishment ;)

Hi Jeffrey,

You make some interesting points, however, this discussion should probably be discussed upstream (e.g. on gnome-shell's mailing list) rather than on a specific implementation -- esp. not as a Tweak Tool bug report. gnome-tweak-tool just tries to make it easy to configure the settings that are not normally exposed to users.

I address some of your points below - hope this might help!

(1) gnome-shell-extensions-alternative-status-menu
(2) yes, it seems GNOME3's screensaver is not at feature parity with GNOME2 yet.
I miss the gnome-screensaver-command's -i (inhibit) option the most
(3) you can use Control Center's System Info -> Graphics -> Forced Fallback Mode
to get a GNOME 2 desktop; it is, however, tuned to approximate GNOME Shell's
    look and feel
