Description Jeremy Kindy 2011-07-12 18:42:39 UTC
Description of problem:
Subversion does not contain an init script. Found other users online with the same problem: http://www.zhlug.nl/content/etcinit-dsvnserve-missing-on-rhel6/

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
1.6.11-2.el6_1.4

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install subversion package
2. /etc/init.d/svnserve does not exist

Actual results:
# yum -y install subversion
 <snip>
# rpm -qa subversion
subversion-1.6.11-2.el6_1.4.x86_64
# rpm -qf /etc/init.d/svnserve
error: file /etc/init.d/svnserve: No such file or directory
# touch /etc/init.d/svnserve
# rpm -qf /etc/init.d/svnserve
file /etc/init.d/svnserve is not owned by any package

Expected results:
/etc/init.d/svnserve exists (and works)

Additional info:
Also attempted to install i686 version and it did not contain the init script either. Copied init script from RHEL5 and it works fine, so that is available as a workaround.

Comment 2 RHEL Program Management 2011-07-12 18:58:15 UTC
This request was evaluated by Red Hat Product Management for
inclusion in the current release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
Because the affected component is not scheduled to be updated
in the current release, Red Hat is unfortunately unable to
address this request at this time. Red Hat invites you to
ask your support representative to propose this request, if
appropriate and relevant, in the next release of Red Hat
Enterprise Linux. If you would like it considered as an
exception in the current release, please ask your support
representative.

Folks, this is clearly a bad bug in the form of an omission. "You can't start subversion in RHEL6" should never be a true statement.

Comment 5 Joe Orton 2011-08-16 09:14:10 UTC
Thanks for the report.
