There's also a browser difference - on a Mac (Safari 3) - the full text of the error is displayed without horizontal scrolling.

Hmm... looks like the version.txt is generated from someone with old SVN client ;)

Should we truncate the message to only show the version number?

I'd vote for the build # until we ship - then the version number.

This JIRA is marked as being fixed in CR1 - the problem is still present in the CR1 build. The linked GUVNOR JIRA indicates a Fix version of 5.1

For BRMS - we really should fix this problem. Customers will have to have an easy way to identify the version of BRMS they are running.

Just fixed it or disabled the revision number if the SVN client is too old. So if everything is ok it shows them both, if not just the version.

We should keep the JIRA open until the fix is in the BRMS product code and can be verified.

added to BRMS 5.0 CP01 release notes as resolved:

GUVNOR-251
The About dialog box was displaying an error message on some systems instead of the expected content. This dialog box now consistently displays the JBoss Enterprise BRMS Platform version number and WebDAV URL.
