I meant "yum would not install gnome-applets". Not "gnome-panel". Sorry. You can bypass the obsolete with --exclude=gnome-panel, but the package still won't work due to broken dependencies (bug 691250). However, the F16 package seems to work. I have the F16 multiload applet on my F15 panel now. However, the F16 package > seems to work. I have the F16 multiload applet on my F15 panel now. Works for me too. For the benefit of others: You get the F16 rpm from the "testing" section of mirror sites (as of 8/26/2011). It installs directly without any problems. (Download it, then use yum localinstall.) Then, to add it to the panel (in fallback mode, which I will use until it goes away and I have to try Xfce again), alt + right-click on the panel to get "Add to panel", and then - this is crucial - the thing you want to add is System Monitor. Scroll down until you see it. The upshot is that I think this bug is "fixed" in Fedora 16 and should probably be marked as fixed, but I seem to be unable to do that. (Download it, then use yum localinstall.) "yum --releasever=16 --enablerepo=updates-testing install gnome-applets", once you install the key from https://fedoraproject.org/keys . > Then, to add > it to the panel (in fallback mode, which I will use until it goes away and I > have to try Xfce again), I am with you there. > alt + right-click on the panel to get "Add to panel", Thanks for the tip; I was doing everything manually in dconf. I started https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/GNOME_2_nostalgics_FAQ with that and more. > The upshot is that I think this bug is "fixed" in Fedora 16 and should probably > be marked as fixed, but I seem to be unable to do that. You would use "CLOSED NEXTRELEASE", but let's see if the developers elect to do something for Fedora 15. This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life. Fedora has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 15. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version' of '15' have been closed as WONTFIX. (Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.) Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were unable to fix it before Fedora 15 reached end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on "Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that version of Fedora. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life.
