Description markm 2011-07-28 14:02:21 UTC
Description of problem:

I have a Lenovo T420s laptop with integrated Intel graphics card - when I attach an external monitor, it works great... but I cannot make it a default screen (ie. move gnome-shell dock / dynamic workspaces to it). So I've tried to use hardware monitor switch - when I press it a few times, I get a blank screen.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

gnome-shell-3.0.2-4.fc15.x86_64

How reproducible:

always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Attach an external monitor - desktop gets extended
2. press fn+F7 (monitor switch) - external monitor mirrors content from the laptop's panel
3. press fn+F7 again - external monitor starts "auto-calibration"...

Actual results:

laptop's panel gets blank (expected) and external monitor remains blank

Expected results:

laptop's panel gets blank and external monitor displays desktop's content with panels etc.

Additional info:

my external monitor is Samsung SyncMaster 2343 with resolution 2048x1152... I guess it should matter, as by default it works just fine as an extended desktop to my internal panel, which has 1600x900 resolution...

Reproduced - seems to lock up the machine?

I think this is fixed in Fedora 16.

Comment 2 Jens Petersen 2011-11-07 06:11:08 UTC
Also seems to be fixed in latest F15 -
works for me anyway with F15 + latest updates Live image.

Glad it has been resolved in latest updates. I had to downgrade to Fedora 14 though - gnome-shell is unbearable for me.

Comment 4 Fedora End Of Life 2012-08-07 20:21:55 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 15. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version'
of '15' have been closed as WONTFIX.

(Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this
occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.)

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen
this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we were unable to fix it before Fedora 15 reached end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that
version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
