Description Ryan Farmer 2011-07-31 23:57:21 UTC
Description of problem:

When clicking a magnet link, an error pops up saying that the magnet handler has died unexpectedly.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

ktorrent-4.1.1-1.fc15.x86_64

How reproducible:

Click a magnet link and observe that instead of launching whatever is specified in magnet.protocol, an error pops up that says the magnet handler has died unexpectedly.

Actual results:

No magnet links work when launched from any application that respects the KDE defaults. Applications where the user can select a helper for magnets (such as Firefox or Opera) work normally, where applications such as Chrome, Chromium, Konqueror, Rekonq, etc. which use KDE's settings or call xdg-open will fail to launch the magnet URN.

Expected results:

Program specified in magnet.protocol should be launched.

What version of kdebase is this?

Comment 2 Ryan Farmer 2011-08-01 01:50:57 UTC
kdebase-4.6.95-11.fc15.x86_64

Comment 3 Roland Wolters 2011-08-01 20:06:12 UTC
Ryan, can you please check if that other magnet clients do work if they are configured to be launched for magnet links? I just want to make sure if the bug is actually against ktorrent or kdebase.

Comment 4 Roland Wolters 2011-12-29 11:35:58 UTC
Ryan, can you please check if the problm persists with the newest kdebase?

Comment 5 Roland Wolters 2012-01-05 18:55:40 UTC
Changed the severity to medium becuse the functionality itself (using magnet links) is still given.

But I repet: Ryan Farmer, please provide the above requested information.

This problem is no longer an issue. Closing. (Although kio magnet does other irritating things and I question its usefulness, it seems to not have this particular issue anymore.)
