Description charles weber 2011-08-01 23:26:27 UTC
Description of problem:
Belkin wireless USB nic doesnt work because module does not recognize it. The vndor never communicated the USB ID to ralink.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Fedora 15 2.6.28.8-35 and before kernels

How reproducible:
First I added to rpmfusion rt3070usb module. They said it was deprecated and I should fix it in kernel and file bugzilla. Add in USB ID and the hard ware works. Take out and it doesnt work.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Edit kernel source rt2800usb.c and add in 2cd line below.
        { USB_DEVICE(0x050d, 0x815c), USB_DEVICE_DATA(&rt2800usb_ops) },
        { USB_DEVICE(0x050d, 0x825b), USB_DEVICE_DATA(&rt2800usb_ops) },
I put in same place that current linux kernel v3.0 has it.
2. rebuild kernel rpm and install. I used 2.6.38.8-35.fc15 x86_64 and i686
3. Belkin F5D8055 V2

Bus 002 Device 002: ID 050d:825b Belkin Components F5D8055 N+ Wireless Adapter
v2000 [Ralink RT3070]

is recognised by rt2800usb module, wireless works and life is good.

Actual results:
works

Expected results:

works
Additional info:

Fedora 15 had kernel-2.6.40-4.fc15 pushed to updates today. That is a rebranded 3.0 kernel and it should contain these changes already. Please test that and see if the module recognizes your hardware.

Fedora 16 and rawhide also already have that change.

2.6.40-4 works just fine.
thanks
