Description George Bush 2002-09-13 15:12:24 UTC
Description of Problem:
I prefer the Gnome desktop and like the startup hints to display the Fortune.
The startup hint displays only the Fortune title and does not show any fortune
text in the hint window although I have used the Gnome Startup Preferences to
specify fortunes instead of login hints;however, when I select the deafult
display normal hints, the startup hint is displayed properly.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Gnome 1.4

How Reproducible:
Specify "Display fortunes instead of hints" in the Startup Hint dialog of the
Session preferences, click apply, then log off and log back on as same user.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Click "Start Here" icon
2. Double-click "Preferences" icon
3. Double-click "Session" icon
4. Double-click "Startup Hint" icon
5. Select "Display fortunes instead of hints" option
6. Click "Apply" button
7. Log off desktop
8. Log in as same user

Actual Results:
Startup Hint dialog box displays title "Fortune" but the remainder of the dialog
window is blank.

Expected Results:
One would expect to see some text displayed in the dialog box indicating one's
fortune to avert the need for calling Ms. Cleo.

Additional Information:
Red Hat Support has advised me that this is a bug in the Gnome 1.4 package
included with Red Hat Linux 7.3, ergo this bug report.

Comment 1 Havoc Pennington 2002-09-13 15:44:22 UTC
Thanks for the report. This code is all gone in our next release containing
GNOME 2 (there isn't a hint on login anymore, fortune or otherwise). Closing bug
as we are unlikely to release an errata package for 7.3 for this issue.
