Description of problem: It's confusing (mainly for Linux newcomers) to have (almost) identical names under the icons of two different tools ("Software Update Preferences" and "Software Update"). Current icons naming is "Software Update(s)" where just the letter "s" makes the difference between both tools (please see attachment for reference purposes). Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): Fedora 16 RC2 (live-cd and previous versions as well) Actual results: Icons with almost the same name in Application list of Activities Expected results: Different names that would better fit the purpose of the tools and it will be clear what kind of application / tool will be started after clicking on the icon. For discussion / proposal: Maybe merging both tools into the one could improve the impression / feeling of fragmented and unpolished environment. (I mean do we need several special icons in application list if all of them serve one purpose - to update our system? 'Software update preferences' are already part of the 'Package Manager for Gnome' so we do not need to have additional / separate icon for it. Or the configuration of the system updates could be located in 'System Settings' panel only). This could be valid for all other configuration tools/programs that have separate icons from the main applications using these settings. It means, each application could be configured directly in the application itself or from one central place - 'System Settings'. Herewith, reduction of (more or less) duplicated icons and centralization of the system configuration to one place could improve the user experience and the newcomers could easier understand how the environment works.
