a fix for this is building now.

It's the result of code placing the screensaver windows from the wrong hook. It happened to work before because the hook was getting called at the same time as the proper hook. The fix introduced in gnome-screensaver-2.28.3-14 changes when this wrong hook is called, so it's not longer happening at the same time as the proper hook.

I'm building a package now that moves the screensaver window placement code to the right hook.
