(In reply to comment #0) > comment: > :On startup, Evolution 3.2 tried to automatically migrate the profile/mail/data > from a 2.24 profile. > :Note that some files (such as the "Inbox" file) were corrupted due to a disk > failure... Thanks for a bug report. I found only one similar issue, upstream, bug [1], though it's not the same issue, it only happened during migration. This one crashed while opening your On This Computer/Junk folder, maybe that folder was affected by the disk failure too? Still, I'm not sure how much this is related. Nonetheless, does evolution run properly after the crash for you or any action is needed to let it run? The previous messages can be restored manually, if the respective mbox files were not broken by the disk failure itself. Please let me know if you want any help on the restore. Well, those mbox files were not only heavy (>500 MB) but they were pretty corrupt, of that I'm sure. Thunderbird would be unable to import more than one message in them, and trying to use nano, grep, less or even cat to look at the contents would throw a segfault (!) or something like that, so I'm not sure there is a lot that can be done on the Evolution side if even grep/less choke on it. I just thought I'd report it nonetheless in the hope that it can be useful (maybe there can be a way to put safeguards/exception catchalls in place). For the record, I ended up simply starting a fresh evolution profile (thus losing the mails), though I probably still have the mailbox files sitting around somewhere in a backup... Thanks for an update. I cannot explain why it crashed, because the code seems to be correct, especially with values being shown in the backtrace. I do not know if there is anything to be done on evolution side too, also because those simple tools you named above having trouble with reading your mbox files (I do not recall seeing 'cat' crashing on a file, ever). Maybe restoring from a backup will fix it, fixing the disk layout for the file, but even that may fail to restore mails. I'm closing this as CantFix, I'm sorry. |
