Description Łukasz Posadowski 2011-10-15 11:37:21 UTC
Description of problem:
When I want to run a program, or search for file, after typing one letter (a, s, k, m...) Shell freezes. All I can do is moving mouse and switch to text console. Top says, that shell takes 100% cpu and minor amounts of ram. I can't kill it, but I can reboot without any problems.

Some letters don't "do" this: "x", or "v" works fine.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Fedora 16 Beta and Gnome Shell 3.2

How reproducible:
Always.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Hit WIN key.
2. Type "a", or "s", or "m", or "k".
3. Do nothing, because you can.

Actual results:
Shell freezes.

Expected results:
Run app.

Additional info:
I can fix it, at least temporary. Removing Gnome configuration (.config, .chache, etc...) solves the problem for about 3-4 days. I believe it's a problem with Gnome cache, where it stores apps and previously opened files. I just don't know where this cache is.

Identical behavior. Typing a single letter into App search box freezes the box.
Fedora 16 64-bit. On Ubuntu 11.10 64-bit Gnome 3.2 all works correct.

London Smoke theme can't show Epiphany contacts on search and all Gnome hangs.

Turning Epiphany accounts off solved the problem.

I have the same behavior;
Initially I sow that if I search something no apps are searched (only contacts and documents)
an from that momment some time it crash
some time -no
(I have disabled all extensions- and in this way it doesn't crash)
reboot
log in
disable all extension and reeneable them
search
- don't crash - only search dos and contacts

reboott
login
and search
- instant crash
