Description H. Peter Anvin 2011-10-17 00:26:56 UTC
Description of problem:
NetworkManager disconnects one VPN when one tries to enable another. This makes it impossible to have VPN connections to multiple sites at once.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
kde-plasma-networkmanagement-0.9-0.59.20110919git.nm09.fc15.x86_64
NetworkManager-openvpn-0.9.0-1.fc15.x86_64
NetworkManager-0.9.1.90-3.git20110927.fc15.x86_64

How reproducible:
100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Set up two OpenVPN VPNs in NetworkManager (KDE)
2. Try to connect to both at once
3.

Actual results:
When trying the second, the first will disconnect, then the second will fail to connect. It will succeed if retried.

Expected results:

Comment 1 Kevin Kofler 2011-10-17 02:23:52 UTC
I think this is a limitation in NetworkManager itself.

Comment 2 shamim.islam 2012-05-26 00:15:47 UTC
I manage 6 different networks with multiple VPN's. Sometimes I need to move data from one to the other. This "disconnect" requirements should be removed for items like OpenVPN that can peacefully coexist for those of us that know what we're doing. I've had to copy over the Mandriva vpn-start/vpn-stop scripts just to get around this limitation and have to execute the commands on the CLI.

Gold plating is not a requirement.

PS. I am running FC16. Kernel-3.1.0-7 (the last one with a working iwlwifi driver).

Comment 4 Fedora End Of Life 2012-08-07 16:06:05 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 15. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version'
of '15' have been closed as WONTFIX.

(Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this
occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.)

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen
this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we were unable to fix it before Fedora 15 reached end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that
version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping

Comment 5 Niels de Vos 2012-08-09 15:37:24 UTC
I still would like to be able to informed when this feature gets available in Fedora. Re-opening as we're still waiting on an upstream implementation (see the external tracker).

Comment 6 Rex Dieter 2012-08-09 15:42:14 UTC
ok, adding keyword, so this doesn't get auto-closed.

though, following the upstream tracker directly may well be the best way to track when the feature gets implemented imo.

Comment 7 rickb 2014-11-01 13:35:31 UTC
Still present in Fedora 20, plese have a look!

Thanks

Comment 8 Fedora Admin XMLRPC Client 2015-08-18 14:56:41 UTC
This package has changed ownership in the Fedora Package Database. Reassigning to the new owner of this component.

Comment 9 Neal Gompa 2015-08-23 12:34:16 UTC
This issue is still present in Fedora 22, Fedora 23 branched, and rawhide.

Comment 10 Timon 2016-02-18 14:21:05 UTC
this version https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/lkundrak/NetworkManager/ works fine

from here: https://cgit.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/tree/NEWS?h=1.2-beta1
