Description Jack Reed 2011-10-19 05:46:33 UTC
+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #743367 +++

These days, 'livecd-iso-to-disk' is a bit of a misnomer: it has specific support for writing non-live images (net install and DVD) to USB sticks and both anaconda and livecd-tools teams 'support' this usage. Currently, the install guide states that livecd-iso-to-disk should only be used for live images, and dd should be used for DVD / netinst images. This should be updated. (It would also probably be a good idea to document the use of the --efi parameter to livecd-iso-to-disk for writing EFI-bootable images, but this has some mantraps in it, I think, so I might file a different bug for that).

The introduction to section 3.2.2.1 for F15 reads:

"The graphical tool and the works only with the Fedora live image. To create Fedora USB media from the distribution image or minimal boot media image, use the command-line method described in Section 3.2.2.1.3, “Making Fedora USB Media with dd”."

There's obviously some kind of typo here, as there's clearly meant to be something between "and the" and "works only". It's probably meant to read:

"The graphical tool and livecd-tools work only with the Fedora live image. To create Fedora USB media from the distribution image or minimal boot media image, use the command-line method described in Section 3.2.2.1.3, “Making Fedora USB Media with dd”.

But it should probably be amended to read:

"The graphical tool works only with Fedora live images. To create Fedora USB media from the distribution image or minimal boot media image, use the command-line method described in Section 3.2.2.1.2, “Making Fedora USB Media with livecd-tools”, or the alternative command-line method described in Section 3.2.2.1.3, “Making Fedora USB Media with dd”.

Does not apply to RHEL.
