Description Klaas Vantournhout 2011-10-25 07:07:37 UTC
Description of problem:
Everytime I log into kde, or wake my laptop up after suspension, I get the question.

"SIM PIN Unlock Required

The mobile broadband device 'Ericsson F3507g Mobile Broadband Minicard Composite Device' requires a SIM PIN code before it can be used."

If I give the pin or not, there is no difference.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
NetworkManager-0.9.1.90-4.git20110927.fc16.x86_64

How reproducible:
always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.log into kde
2. electrons magically find a path through millions of transistors to ultimately form a little box on my screen.
3.

Actual results:
Every time I log in, the pop up comes

Expected results:
It should not appear all the time, but just one time!

This one also affects me, but on fedora 15. The Sim-Pin is correctly set in /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/ so the question for the sim pin code should never appear.

This seems to be a bug in NM, since ubuntu is having multiple bug reports with the same issue as well.

It is also reproducible on Fedora 17 with Gnome.

Comment 3 Fedora End Of Life 2013-01-16 13:07:24 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 16 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 16. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '16'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 16's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 16 is end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" and open it against that version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping

Comment 4 Fedora End Of Life 2013-02-13 13:47:14 UTC
Fedora 16 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2013-02-12. Fedora 16 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.

the annoying box

This bug has come back in Fedora 20:
It does not real harm, it is just annoying.
Anybody that knows a workaround to stop this useless pop up please speak out.

Since: If the PIN code was saved before, you can just click cancel and start the mobile broadband connection without introducing the PIN code.

There are currently more things wrong with the visualisation of Mobile broadband:
When you connect, the icon and the label change to "connecting". Once Connected, the icon and the label change back to "disabled".

This last thing is confusing at first but you get easily used to it.
The ever annoying pop up asking for the PIN however stays annoying enough to aggravate me that much, that I write this comment to this closed bug.
