It does shrink now, but it doesn't grow. I think it should grow as well.

I mean, there is a limit beyond which it doesn't grow wider.

This is by design (seems more aesthetic that way, and no real need for such a long search bar).

Well, I don't think it is much nicer to have that asymmetry there, but you're right that it is wide enough.
